Brill United vs Tring Tornadoes

Brill United 9 - 0 Tring Tornadoes

Our opening goal was scored by Freddie with Brill having had most of the possession up to that point.

Shortly after, Gabe burst into the box and passed the ball beautifully into the net to the left of their goalkeeper.

Then Gabe’s measured cross found Barnes close to goal, and he cheekily back-heeled the ball into the net, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

Harry calmly scored next, following another cross from the right. Sid then scored, latching onto a rebound off the goalkeeper, who had saved a shot well, but couldn’t stop Sid’s powerful reply that hit the roof of the net.

Tring didn’t have many clear-cut chances, but Henry made an exceptional full-stretch diving save to keep the sheet clean at half-time. Brill were well on top, leading 5-0.

Tring tried to get involved in the game, but we were relentless and scored more in the second half. A sixth goal came when Freddie made a brilliantly weighted pass for Gabe to go through on goal. Gabe’s powerful shot went in through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Later, after some second-half rotations, Ben playing at right back passed up the line for Freddie to run free, cut into the box and place a delightful finish into the far corner of the net. Freddie then scored his hat-trick, again picking his spot and placing the ball just inside the post, assisted by Eddie’s pass, who was now playing up front. Moments later, I was still writing down about Freddie’s hat-trick goal when an elbow in the ribs and a cheer told me Eddie had scored from close range. Go Eddie! The score was now 9-0. But we weren’t finished trying for more, Gabe hit the bar, and the goal was still shaking when Sam latched onto the rebound outside the box, took aim, and his shot also hit the crossbar!

We could easily have scored many more, Tring’s ‘keeper stood up to many strikes on goal and made several saves. It wasn’t all one sided, Tring had their moments of possession, but as soon as they got near our goal area, our back three, alongside a supportive midfield kept them at bay and in truth, Henry had little to do other than to mop up stray balls. Our defensive play was really good, not only the back 3, but the whole team effort was impressive. As Toby implied at the end, everyone played well but his MOTM was Arlo.
